Romania How to dance Brâul Male line dance. Brâul means belt, as formerly dancers were rigidly holden together by the belt. This restriction allowed only half-circle or short line formations. Nowadays it is rare in Romania, dancers hold by shoulder or by crossed hands. Brâuls used to be male line dances but now there are rather mixt. According to the area there are from 3 types, Carpatian Brauls (holding shoulder), Danubian Brauls (holding crossed hands) and Banat Brauls (holding shoulder). Generally speaking, West Europe dances move to the left whereas those of Balkans and East Europe move to the right. see www.youtube.com
